MEET HAZEL

Leadership for an inclusive and equal Ireland

Dear Graduate,

I am writing to you as a registered voter for the Trinity Seanad Election. You would have received your ballot this week and polling day for the upcoming Seanad election is January 30th. I am honoured to be nominated by so many of you to run. Me and my team are calling today to ask for your Number 1 Vote.

I have been a Dublin City Councillor since 2019 and was the 352nd Lord Mayor of Dublin, overseeing the city during one of our most challenging periods, the pandemic lockdown. I was a member of the City Recovery Task Force, the Community Response Team, the Garda National Diversity Forum, and the board of the National Maternity Hospital among many others. I worked to ensure supports were in place for the most vulnerable, the marginalised, for older people and for us all. I also worked on the National Night Time Economy Task Force supporting the Minister to bring in the first basic income pilot for arts and I helped launch the hate crime legislation consultation.

My work has focused on housing and climate action; as Lord Mayor I established the first Dublin City Homelessness Task Force. I co-sponsored the new city policy to end over-concentration of hotels, was responsible for reducing build-to-rent in the current Dublin City Development Plan and have fought for reforming of the vacant and derelict site register. I champion public transport, cycling and walking improvements to ensure we deliver cleaner air and a greener city. I have fought for diversity, inclusion and launched Dublin’s first Integration Strategy, pushed for Inclusion to be given statutory footing on a local authority level and I sit on the National Anti-Racism Advisory.

I want to bring this leadership to the Seanad. As your Senator, I will keep fighting for equal rights, tackle discrimination and ensure we keep climate on the agenda. I will fight for affordable green homes and sustainable transport. My experience will shape better policy - from talking to constituents, to working with advocacy groups, to rolling up my sleeves to fix the issues. I have a track record of getting things done. Now is the time to find a new version of progress - where everyone has a secure roof over their heads, where our children’s future is safe, where our rivers and air are clean, where our marginalised are protected, where diverse opinions are respected and different experiences valued. I will work with you to make that happen.

When you receive your ballot, I would be grateful for your Number 1 Vote. You should receive your ballot by this week or next, please make sure to post straight away or no later than 24th of January. If you have not received your ballot by next week, please email academic.registry@tcd.ie

Please contact me on the details below if you have any questions for me.

Many thanks,

Hazel
